Practitioner - Clare Caldwell

HND Inst. Man, HNC Comp. Therapies, Reiki Level 3, Qualified Mickel Therapy Practitioner.

The Background

Mickel Therapy was originally developed for the treatment of ME, Post Viral Fatigue, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) by Dr David Mickel a GP based in Elgin. He left his GP practice in 2002 to work full time delivering Mickel Therapy and to train others to do so.

Dr Mickel developed a deep interest in ME when he found he had no satisfactory explanation or treatment for this very difficult condition for the patients visiting him in his surgery. His research over many years led him to take a fresh look at the way the body works which makes sense of the confusing debilitating symptoms associated with ME.

The Therapy
Mickel Therapy looks at why the symptoms of illness are being generated and through the therapist provides the tools and guidance to allow the body to stop sending them. This results in a return to health.

We are all very aware of our conscious mind and our thoughts which direct everything we do. In Mickel Therapy we call this the head intelligence. What we may not be so aware of is a second protective mechanism or unconscious mind within the body designed to help to guide us and keep us safe. We call this the body intelligence. This mechanism is often referred to in everyday language when we say things such as `I had a gut instinct` or `I felt butterflies in my stomach`.

Our body intelligence generates emotions to guide us based on our past experiences.

If we do not listen to these emotions or if we take inappropriate actions our body intelligence will become concerned that we are not keeping ourselves safe. In order to grab our attention and get us to take corrective action our body generates the symptoms of illness.

Ultimately the Hypothalamus gland becomes overworked leading to severe symptoms of ill health and the group of illness characterised by ME, CFS, PVF, IBS and Fibromyalgia. It can also present as many other illnesses some of which are commonly attributed to stress.

Mickel Therapy refers to illnesses caused in this manner as Hypothalamitis. See the diagram below

In Mickel Therapy we look at what has gone wrong and why. We then give you the tools to get well and guide you through their use in order to allow your body to return you to health.

The therapy is highly successful with a 92% success rate at the time of writing. The average time it takes for symptoms to disappear is 6-8 sessions.

The cost is £80 a session as in addition to the therapist you work with, Dr Mickel provides supervision for all sessions.

Sessions last one hour although the first is usually longer, between one and a half to two hours (no extra charge). Sessions will be structured to take your health needs into account.
