Traditional Chinese Medicine incorporates Chinese Herbal Medicine, Acupuncture, Tuina (Chinese Massage), Dietary therapy and exercise. Using these disciplines together or separately allows the Chinese Medicine practitioner to provide an individualised treatment that is appropriate for each patient. Conditions that respond well to Traditional Chinese Medicine are gynaecological problems (menopausal, menstrual, infertility), headaches and migraines, musculoskeletal problems (backache, sciatica, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, neck disorders, arthritis etc.), digestive disorders (IBS, constipation, heartburn, Crohn's disease, nausea and vomiting), respiratory/allergy problems (sinusitis, asthma, hayfever, recurrent cough), skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne), insomnia, anxiety and stress, childhood disorders. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs work well with IVF, increasing the chances of conception by 25%. Tuina can also be used on its own as a deep massage technique for sports injuries or muscular aches and pains.

What a session involves
After a full consultation and diagnosis, a treatment will be carried out involving the most appropriate methods. For example, a musculo-skeletal problem will combine acupuncture and massage and a skin problem herbs and dietary advice. The number of treatments required will depend on the severity and nature of the condition.

Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture
Recently described by The Times as a "viable alternative to cosmetic surgery," or the "acupuncture facelift", revitalising facial acupuncture is a specialist treatment designed to improve the overall appearance and health of the skin. By using the holistic principles that are central to acupuncture practice, facial revitalising acupuncture aims to rebalance the body's energy system (Qi); this brings vital energy to the facial muscles and skin, thereby improving the flow of blood. This consequently increases the local supply of nutrients to the skin, hydrates, firms and plumps the tissue and decreases the appearance of fine lines, blemishes and wrinkles.

Some of the effects of facial acupuncture include:
  • Controls acne
  • Tightens the pores
  • Brightens the eyes
  • Improves muscle tone
  • Relieves sinus congestion
  • Helps to reduce a double chin
  • Minimises or eliminates fine lines
  • Wrinkles are smoothed and appear less noticeable
  • Balances out facial colour and tone, smoothes blemishes
  • Lifts sagging skin, puffy or droopy eyelids

What a session of FRA involves
Treatments are firmly based on a holistic approach to skin care and are entirely safe. Following a consultation, extremely fine needles are inserted into acupuncture points in the face. Needles are left in place for around 20 minutes, during which time gentle electro stimulation may also be used, depending upon whether this is indicated or not. Once needles are removed a Chinese Tuina facial massage completes the treatment. A series of 6 closely spaces sessions are necessary for best results, followed by regular monthly sessions to prolong and maintain the benefits.

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

Juliette combines her training in the different massage techniques of swedish massage, shiatsu (japanese acupressure) and tuina (chinese massage) to create a deep, thorough and individualised treatment.  This can range from a deep, relaxing full body massage to an intensive workout on specific problem areas, as required by the patient.

Juliette is also a qualified yoga teacher, she teaches patients useful yoga exercises and breathing or relaxation techniques where they are required.

Juliette Lowe is a very experienced practitioner and has been in practice for 20 years. As well as being a qualified practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, she has also trained in Swedish Massage and Shiatsu and now incorporates these skills, where appropriate, within her treatment. She brings these experiences into her present practice to provide a relaxed but professional treatment approach.
